Dear Ms. Davidow,
I was born in Queens, NY. My Mother was born in Venezuela, while my father was born in Ecuador. In my culture I love to eat Arepa’s on my Venezuelan side, but on my Ecuadorian side we eat lots of ceviche. My primary language that I am fluent in is English. However, I do understand a small amount of Spanish. Furthermore, I can only speak a little bit of Spanish as well. My mother’s tongue mostly leans on the Spanish side. However, she can speak small amounts of English. Currently, I am deciding to major in electrical engineering. I have had a passion for working on electronics as well as understanding the electrical process on it. I had come to this decision because it was between mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. I had absolutely no clue what I would choose to do, nevertheless I decided to do electrical engineering. The reason for choosing electrical engineering wasn’t because I flipped a coin, and it landed on heads. But it was because I decided to follow another passion I had always had. I always had a passion for working for the military. Of course, I can work in the military as a Mechanical engineer. However, an electrical engineer truly understands more of the flow of electricity. Currently, in the global situation we are heading into a future where oil and gas are being replaced by electricity. The struggle that I had endured varied a lot but one of them was most definitely self-doubt. I always saw the wort outcome of a situation. I wasn’t the best when it came to idea making because my creativity was always subpar. However, I had always doubted myself and my ability to perform in a team, in a job, in an internship or even in a sport. A big success in my life was changing my body, being healthy, and being active. I find that such a big success because I had such terrible habits. A meaningful experience for me was when I was bicycling around my block with my father. We were tired and decided to sit for a while, drinking water and admiring the scene. One of the biggest things I would like to learn in this class is to think like an engineer, to actively get inside the mindset of what an engineer is. I wish to take away important aspects of engineering, to take away a part of the mindset of being an engineer. Learning to speak and write important to me now as well as future me isn’t because of the future paper work but mostly because learning to read and write is a necessity in the future. No matter what field you work in. Unfortunately, most students who study engineering don’t see reading and writing as a necessity. I see this as a necessity because I like reading short stories. In these short stories I really feel the passion that the author puts into it. I actively go to the gym to perform at my best. I applied for an apprenticeship, and if I do get in I would just like some flexibility as it may take lots of my time.
